Once upon a time, 54 South 2nd Street housed a paper doily factory. Brooklyn Lace Works was operated in industrial Williamsburg by three generations, until the company relocated to Connecticut and the building was left vacant (except for the boxes of doilies!) for years and years. Then, in 2010, 54 South 2nd Street was sold to a new owner. Soon after, WNNS signed a ten-year lease, and now the building is ready to start a new life as our preschool!
It is no easy task turning a doily factory into a perfect place for children, but the WNNS community is up for the challenge. The contractor, architects, and project manager, all pre-existing members of our family, are working hard to facilitate the transformation, and you can help too! Below are some items that we'll need to realize our vision. From tiny toilets and faucets that are easy on little hands to beautiful cork flooring and warm, inviting light fixtures, every donation will help us towards our goal of building a new home!
Sensory exploration is an integral part of the 2's class experience. Particularly at the start of the school year, teachers use the sand table as a soothing yet engaging activity - plus burying and retrieving small objects is a great way to safely explore separation!

WNNS children use these blocks to build everything from the stage and scenery for a play, to a post office, computer, or even an airplane used to fly to China. All the while, they are working together, problem-solving, listening and communicating, exercising their bodies, building a working knowledge of math and physics, and on and on!
